Welcome to the website of St Mary's, Horden. St Mary's exists to serve the community of this former mining village on the Durham coast. The church is in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England, and our worship centres on the Mass and daily prayer.

There is always something going on at St Mary's. With Mass celebrated seven days a week, regular Morning and Evening Prayer, an active Sunday School and frequent social events, we welcome everyone to join our church family.

We also host many baptisms, weddings and funerals at St Mary's. To book a Baptism or Wedding, or to arrange for Banns of Marriage to be called, please visit the church on any Wednesday evening from 6pm to 6.30pm.

The Centennial Centre

Horden's church hall was built in 1904 as the original parish church and dedicated to St Hilda. The original building was in need of a great deal of work and in 2012 a grant of £500,000.00 was secured in order to re-furbish the hall. The newly refurbished hall has been renamed 'The Horden Centennial Centre' and is a valuable resource for the local community.

The Horden Centennial Centre is available to hire for a wide variety of functions including wedding and christening parties, funeral wakes, social events and so on, for more information visit the website of the centre: http://www.hordencentennialcentre.co.uk/

Children and Young People

St Mary's has an active Sunday School which meets each Sunday during the 9.30am Parish Mass. New members are always welcome to join our regular Sunday School activities in church. We have also enjoyed a theatre trip to London to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a parish trip to the pantomime, a sponsored walk to raise money for our youth activities, and each year we take a group of young people to the National Youth Pilgrimage at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk. Our young people are also involved in serving at the altar during Mass and with singing in the choir. We maintain good links with our local primary schools and groups visit the church regularly for a variety of activities.
